In it’s 23rd year, artists from all over the world come to Jukkasjarvi, Sweden to design specific features of the ICEHOTEL, involving more than 1,000 tons of pure ice and 30,000 cubic metre of snow hewn from a nearby frozen river. The artists shape the ice using various tools – irons, chainsaws, hand chisels and heating implements. Thin metal frames hold the weight of the ice and bind the entire structure together. As the name suggests ICEHOTEL is an actual hotel and not just a huge exhibition space. Guest sleep in thermal sleeping bags on a bed carved out of ice and covered in reindeer hides. Their ICE Bar (yes, the drinks are served in glasses made out of ice) and large dinning hall are open to the public. To check in, check out the ICEHOTEL site here
